New Overhead Hoist for Acorns!

Summary. The installation of a new overhead hoist system at Acorns Children’s Hospice, Walsall, enhances care flexibility despite room shape challenges. Joerns, collaborating with TPG Disable Aids, navigated architectural quirks to optimise patient transfer, reaffirming their commitment to supporting vital hospice care.

In keeping with our partnership commitments with Acorns Children’s Hospice and following the news that their Walsall hospice has now secured a long-term future, we revisited a prior agreement to install a new overhead hoist system in one of the rooms.

Previously, the room had a basic straight rail install. Therefore, the desire was for increased coverage by way of an X-Y system. As a result of a rather oddly shaped room, it would result in a relatively modest coverage zone. But ultimately, it would provide an improved flexibility during transfer.

So, owing to said challenges, we decided to call on the very capable services of TPG Disable Aids in Hereford for the installation. These guys know their stuff and despite a few challenges, namely differing ceiling levels and a very much non-square room layout, they completed the install in a few hours. Therefore, leaving the Walsall hospice that little bit better equipped. Providing the best possible care to the children and young adults who use and rely on the services of this incredible organisation.

It’s worth mentioning that Alastair Gibbs, MD of TPG, very kindly discounted the installation cost. This is in light of it being for Acorns, which was a gratefully received gesture of good will.

Our Technical Support Engineer, Rob Ordish, was instrumental in planning the layout and specifying the equipment. He joined the installation team on site along with Marketing Manager, Curtis Jordan to see how things were progressing. As anticipated, everything was going swimmingly, and the ‘quirks’ of the room layout were well accounted for. Rob Ordish comments,

“The system is now fully up and running. Giving the room a new lease of life which when all is said and done, helps Acorn’s provide the very best standard of care”.

Joerns continue to support Acorns with patient handling equipment provision as part of their on-going partnership agreement. As well as, providing product and manual handling training where needed.

Further projects are already in the pipeline. We’ll keep you posted on how this partnership continues to be a match made in heaven!
